LiveJournal.... What's that???
Ok, so I may have been a bit busy lately (can anyone blame me!?) but I'm working on that.

Abby and Ellen are doing great and we are starting to fall into a nice daily routine which is helping to keep our weeks from just collapsing from under us.  But I PROMISE to have a proper update post about all that soon... PROMISE!!!

What THIS post is about is me getting things together for some much needed social time!!

I have found a Lego Convention in VA in Aug of 2011 and I AM GOING!  Ellen and Abby probably won't be joining me, but if I have to go alone, I don't care, I AM GOING!  So what I want to know is.....

Does anyone want to join me?

The details can be found at www.brickfair.com

Option A:  Public viewing is open Sat & Sun for $9 per day.  Viewing ONLY (basically a walk-through to look at custom built models)   This part does not really interest me as I don't want to drive down 3 hrs, walk around for 2-4hours, then drive home

Option B: Open Thurs - Sunday to exhibit YOUR custom creations for the public viewing, meet fellow Lego fans, participate in games and all kinds of conventiony type stuff!  THIS is what I will be doing.  Weekend reg is $52 ($50 if you pay them by check).  You MUST prereg and pay before hand (MUCH before the deadline) because they only allow the first 1,000 who pay to attend.  All others who attempt to reg will be turned away.

I did a quick search around the area and it looks like the hotel at the expo is the cheapest (as low as $99 / per night).

So.... I'm totally in.   Anyone else?

PA Turnpike Fail
So I found out the hard way last night that getting rear-ended by a Semi is an exceptional way to fuck up an otherwise productive, and upbeat day.

Cliff's Notes:
All passengers are non-hurt, no ambulance rides for anyone. (was just me and my mom, no Ellen or Abby)
Semi was undamaged save for a scratch on his front bumper
My car is fucked

Additional info:
I was struck by a Semi in the center lane on the PA Turnpike.  With the extremely heavy rains, one of the drains clogged and created HUGE lake across all three EB lanes.  I was traveling 40/45 when I saw the water ahead of me (but didn't realize how much it really was until too late).  I slowed down to 35/40 by the time I reached the water, but it jammed my car and slowed it so fast that the Semi traveling behind me "lost my car in the water splash" and struck me from behind.   Luckily, I was not stopped when struck, so it wasn't as hard as it could have been.  But I was hit hard enough to knock my rear-view mirror off and into the back seat and to open my sunroof shade all the way back on its own.

God, this sucks.

I Can Haz Home Now?
So it looks like Ellen and Abigail will be coming home tomorrow and we should have a nice weekend together.  I could not even begin to express how happy, over-joyed, on-cloud-nine, etc I am... so I don't think I'll even try.

However, on a very funny note;
While Ellen was in the hospital, I've been coming home late at night to sleep and heading back in the early morning.  This allows me to check on the cat, get some rest, and take care of a few house things to get ready for everyone to come home.  I also took this as a rare opportunity to allow the cat to sleep in the bedroom by leaving the bedroom door open so she can come and go as she pleases.  This may have been unsmart.  Wednesday morning at about 4am, she jumped from the floor and landed right on my hip as I was turned on my side.  I was sound asleep and have not had night-time visitors for a very very long time.  This sudden leap upon me scared me something fierce, and in reaction I quickly pushed my arm up under the blanket, tossing the assailant (wanton snuggle bug) off the bed.  I felt so bad.  She came back in about 10-15 minutes to let me know she was very displeased by pouncing my feet and biting at them through the blankets, then trotting out of the room in a huff.  By morning, she was her lovey, snuggley self.  Even if she didn't want to sleep in the bed with me anymore.

Sorry Missy. :(

And the Verdict Is....
Everyone is doing well.  There were no complications, surprises, or "Uh-oh's".  Everything went just fine today... all except the baby did not want to turn.  So we still have a breach baby.  At the end of this week and next week we  have some followup appointments and if the baby has refused to turn on its own by the end of next week we will have to schedule a C-Section for the following week.  This news is not the end of the world and, all-in-all, could be rather convenient. :-)

Thanks to all for all the well wishes and I hope to keep things up to date here.

If you are reading this, I miss you.

37 1/2 Weeks
On Wednesday we will be 38 weeks pregnant.  However, there is a slight hiccup..  And I'm not talking about the daily hiccup sessions that baby has been entertaining us with in the morning and after dinner.  This is a hiccup of another sort.

We found out two weeks ago that the baby is positioned breach; butt first.  We then found out that it is extremely rare to willingly perform a breach birth and the preferred method for this situation is to just schedule a C-section.  Ellen is very much wanting to avoiding a C-section as much as possible and has voiced her opinion about it.  We were offered an option that is scheduled at 11am today.  External cephalic version is where they bush on the belly and manipulate the out side of the tummy in an attempt to turn the baby the correct way.  It is extremely uncomfortable for the mother (sometimes described as more painful than the birth itself) but fortunately carries only small risk to the baby.  Best case is that the baby is put in the proper position.

Possible problems include:
Baby can't be turned and remains breach
Baby is turned, but turns itself back on its own
Umbilical cord gets pinched or wraps around the baby
Placental abruption

Most of the risks are rare and only have a small chance.  However, due to these risks we must have the turning procedure done in the O.R. so that Ellen and baby can be monitored 100% of the time and should anything happen or come up, emergency procedures can be done without delay.

I am not overly worried about what is going to happen in a few short hours as I feel confident that this is a common procedure and that should something need to be done on short notice, qualified people are there to it in very timely manner.  Never the less, I still feel nervous, anxious, and a bit jittery.

Fingers crossed.

Does This Still Work???
Ok, so I've been away for quite a bit.  Looking back it has been about 3 months since my last post (forgive me Father).  Is anyone still using Livejournal these days?

Anyways.  Quick update on things:
I was off my meds briefly but have since regained control and trying to keep to the normal schedule.  Ellen is getting a little bit of a break from work and getting less stress, so that is good for things.  Although she has been slightly under the weather off and on for the last few weeks.  Nothing major, mostly fatiuge and maybe just a little "meh" feelings.  She's gone to a few doctor's appointments about it and they say it is probably related to thisClicky to save spaceCollapse )
The doctor's think she may get more tired before she gets all better, but the prognosis looks good.  We think that after/around June 23rd, she should start to be able to feel normal again. :o)

Dear Papa John's
*** Actual letter written to Papa John's Corp ***
"... On [date] I ordered online for delivery from my local Papa Johns.  My Restaurant Order #[##], Order ID#[####]. My online order included 2 extra orders of garlic cheese sauce, however, these were not included when the order was delivered.  Upon this discovery, I promptly called the store and explained the situation.  I was told they were very busy and would not really have time to redeliver the missing items and offered me a credit for the cost.  While I was unhappy that my order would not be completed, I accepted the credit.  Days later, when I did not see a credit applied to the account that I used to pay for my order, I asked the store for an explanation. I was then very unhappy to learn that the "credit" mentioned prior was not a credit in the from that I presented to the store, but instead it was to be a store credit towards a future order. The person I talked with was polite and apologetic, but explained that the corporate system is not set up to issue refunds and there was nothing farther he could do for me.  While I know the dollar amount is very low in this situation, I can't help but wonder what would happen with a larger order or larger mistake?  I feel that if I pay for something there is an expectation to deliver product and/or services that have been promised. If a mistake is made, I am understanding, but I do expect that when an entity makes a mistake it should do what is right for the customer. Giving me an incomplete order and then telling me that I must spend extra money to receive the credit for something that I have already paid for feels very low and makes me question whether I will take my business to Papa John's in the future..."
